REINTEGRATION PROGRAM
Our reintegration programme begins inside the home and deepens when they exit into society. Despite being in a closed home, our children and youth live within a constructed order and receive their basic necessities; food and shelter. Leaving the institution can be daunting after being confined and restricted in everything that they do. They experience anxiety and uncertainty towards what lies ahead and are ill-equipped to deal with day-to-day life.
Some enter Aftercare Institutions whilst others go back to their homes, communities and problematic situations that triggered them to commit crimes, often facing stigmatisation from those around them. Once they leave the institutions, the children and youth need support and helping hands to successfully reintegrate into society.
Ashiyana creates a safe space for these children, provides life skills, social – emotional learning and creates opportunities where they can positively engage with the society. It is an intensive process that requires patience and acceptance, and realization that there will be setbacks and relapses. Behaviour does not change overnight. For adolescents whose circumstances have set them up for failure, it means developing deep relationships and believing they can achieve the life they have dared to imagine for themselves. Through our programme we reinforce over and over that they are so much more than their circumstances.
